Description

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
  4. Divide the dough in half, shape into balls, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
  5. Roll out one dough ball and place it in a pie plate.
  6. In a bowl, toss the apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Pour into the pastry-lined pie plate.
  7. Roll out the second dough and place it over the apples. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
  8. Brush the top crust with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Consider adding caramel sauce or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor.
