- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
- 6 to 8 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the chilled butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually stir in the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball.
- Divide the dough in half, shape into balls, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
- Roll out one dough ball and place it in a pie plate.
- In a bowl, toss the apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Pour into the pastry-lined pie plate.
- Roll out the second dough and place it over the apples. Seal edges and cut slits in the top crust.
- Brush the top crust with beaten egg.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 35 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Consider adding caramel sauce or a sprinkle of cinnamon for extra flavor.
