Description
A delightful and comforting apple pie made with Granny Smith apples and a buttery crust, perfect for family gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 small Granny Smith apples, or as needed
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup white sugar
- 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
- 0.25 cup water
- 1 (9-inch) double-crust pie pastry, thawed
Instructions
- Gather the ingredients and preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly. Set aside.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add flour, and stir to create a paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Add white sugar, brown sugar, and water to the mixture and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
- Press one pie pastry into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie pan; roll out remaining pastry for the top crust.
- Assemble the pie by layering sliced apples in the bottom crust and create a lattice top with the strips of pastry.
- Pour the sugar-butter mixture over the lattice, making sure it seeps to the apples.
- Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
- Let the pie cool before serving.
