Description

A delightful and comforting apple pie made with Granny Smith apples and a buttery crust, perfect for family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 small Granny Smith apples, or as needed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup packed brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 1 (9-inch) double-crust pie pastry, thawed

Instructions

  1. Gather the ingredients and preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples thinly. Set aside.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, add flour, and stir to create a paste. Cook for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add white sugar, brown sugar, and water to the mixture and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  5. Press one pie pastry into the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie pan; roll out remaining pastry for the top crust.
  6. Assemble the pie by layering sliced apples in the bottom crust and create a lattice top with the strips of pastry.
  7. Pour the sugar-butter mixture over the lattice, making sure it seeps to the apples.
  8. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes until apples are soft.
  9. Let the pie cool before serving.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature, with ice cream or whipped cream to enhance the experience.
