Description
A classic apple pie recipe with tender apples and warm spices, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Perfect Pie Crust Recipe*
- ¼ cup butter
- 8 cups thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon water
- Coarse sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Pie Plate: Set aside a 9-inch pie plate and preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Cook the Apples: In a pot, melt butter over medium-low heat. Add apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt. Cook until apples are tender, about 8-10 minutes, then cool.
- Prepare the Pie Dough: Divide the dough, roll out one disc to 1/8-inch thickness, and place in the pie plate.
- Make the Egg Wash: Whisk together the egg and water for an egg wash.
- Assemble the Pie: Pour the apple mixture into the crust, roll out the second disc, then cover the pie or create a lattice.
- Seal and Vent: Cut vents in the top crust and crimp the edges to seal.
- Apply the Egg Wash: Brush the pie with the egg wash and sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake the Pie: Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) for another 40 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool Before Serving: Let sit to cool, helping the filling set before slicing.
Notes
For best results, chill the pie dough for 30 minutes prior to rolling it out.
