Description
A delightful breakfast bake that combines flaky croissants, sweet berries, and creamy custard, perfect for brunch or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 croissants, slightly stale or a day old
- 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, or blackberries)
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for garnish)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon lemon zest
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Slice the croissants into halves or quarters and arrange them in the baking dish.
- Scatter the mixed berries evenly across the croissants.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar until smooth.
- Pour the custard over the croissants and gently press down to absorb. Let it rest for 15–20 minutes or refrigerate overnight.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and the custard is set but slightly jiggly.
- Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar and serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or fresh berries.
Notes
Use day-old croissants for best results. Feel free to mix different types of berries or fruits for variety.
