Description

Deliciously chewy chocolate chip cookies with a nutty depth from browned butter, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, browned
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter: In a saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the butter, stirring frequently until golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the sugar mixture: In a large bowl, combine the cooled brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix until well-combined, then incorporate the egg, additional yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually fold in flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing gently until no flour streaks remain.
  4. Add chocolate chips: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  5. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Shape the cookies: Remove chilled dough from the fridge and let it soften for about 20 minutes. Scoop portions of dough and place them on baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 13 minutes until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are still soft. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired after baking. Let cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

For best results, do not skip browning the butter and use room-temperature eggs. Chilling the dough is crucial for optimal texture.
