Description
Delicious chocolate chip cookies with a perfect balance of gooey chocolate and chewy dough, made even better with browned butter.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3/4 cup (168 g) unsalted butter, browned
- 1 cup (200 g) packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (50 g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
- 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cup (220 g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
- Flaky sea salt for sprinkling
- 1 1/2 cups (255 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or roughly chopped chocolate
Instructions
- Brown the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes. Cool slightly before using.
- In a large bowl, mix the cooled brown butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract and stir until smooth.
- Gradually add flour, baking soda, and kosher salt, mixing gently with a spatula until no flour streaks remain.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips carefully.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and chill dough in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Scoop portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes until puffed and lightly golden on the edges.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired, and let cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
Chilling the dough is crucial for better texture. For added flavor, use high-quality chocolate.
