- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup softened butter (for filling)
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup butter (for caramel sauce)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm milk with the yeast and letting it sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- Mix the dry ingredients: Combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
- Combine ingredients by adding melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread softened butter on top, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough tightly, slice into 12 pieces, and set aside.
- Prepare caramel sauce by melting butter and mixing in brown sugar and vanilla, then pour into a baking dish.
- Place the cinnamon rolls on top of the caramel sauce and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
- Frost the warm rolls with a mixture of cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for a week. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
