Description

Delightful Buttercream Sugar Cookies that are soft, chewy, and perfect for decorating and sharing. A creative way to celebrate any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons aluminum-free baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 teaspoon pure almond extract
  • ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and kosher salt until creamy.
  3. Gradually add granulated sugar, mixing until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  5. Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until the dough comes together.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Roll out the chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness and cut out shapes.
  9. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 7-8 minutes or until edges are golden.
  10. For frosting, beat butter until creamy, then add confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, almond extract, heavy cream, and salt. Beat until fluffy.
  11. Once cookies are cool, decorate with frosting and any desired toppings.

Notes

Chill the dough to prevent spreading. Use room temperature ingredients for easy mixing.
