- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for the filling)
- 1/4 cup chai tea (brewed and cooled)
- 8 oz cream cheese
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramel sauce)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Whisk together warm milk, brown sugar, and yeast; let it foam for about 5 minutes.
- Add melted butter, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger; mix until soft dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.
- Cover and let the dough rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough, spread brown sugar and chai tea mixture; roll tightly.
- Cut into pieces and arrange in a greased baking dish.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and let rolls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and cooled chai tea until smooth for frosting.
- Melt butter and brown sugar, stir in heavy cream to make caramel sauce.
- Drizzle caramel and cream cheese frosting over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
For best results, use warm milk and a strong chai tea. Try adding cardamom or vanilla for flavor variations.
