Description
A hearty and comforting casserole made with ground beef, potatoes, and plenty of melted cheese, baked together for a warm and satisfying family meal.
Ingredients
1 lb lean ground beef
4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup milk
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp butter
Salt & pepper, to taste
Optional toppings: green onions, parsley, or crushed potato chips
Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
2. In a skillet, melt butter and sauté onion for 3-5 minutes until soft.
3. Add ground beef and garlic, cooking until browned. Drain excess fat.
4. In a bowl, whisk cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
5. Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish, then half of the beef mixture, half of the cheese, and half of the soup mixture.
6. Repeat layers with remaining ingredients.
7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
8. Remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and top is golden brown.
9. Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Add jalapeños or red pepper flakes for spice.
Mix in peas, corn, or bell peppers for extra veggies.
Try smoked paprika for a smoky twist.
Top with crushed potato chips or breadcrumbs for crunch.
Swap cheeses like Colby Jack, Monterey Jack, or Gruyere for variety.
