- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder (optional)
- 1/3 cup hot pepper jelly
- Fresh thyme leaves or chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Gather all your ingredients and ensure your cream cheese and butter are softened.
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
- Mix in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese until fully incorporated.
- Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and optional garlic powder to the mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes to firm up.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches apart.
- Create an indentation in the center of each dough ball with your thumb or spoon.
- Fill each thumbprint with about 1/2 teaspoon of hot pepper jelly.
- Bake for 13–15 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly on the baking sheet and garnish with fresh thyme or parsley if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
These appetizers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2 months. Reheat from frozen at 350°F (175°C) for 10-12 minutes.
