- 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- Butter (for greasing the pan)
Instructions
- Grease a baking dish with butter.
- Cut the loaf of bread into thick slices and arrange them in the baking dish.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread, ensuring all slices are soaked.
- Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sprinkle brown sugar over the top of the soaked bread.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and custard is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving warm.
Notes
Best served warm with fresh fruits, syrup, or whipped cream. Can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
