Description
A fun and healthy twist on a classic treat, these crispy apple fries are perfect as a snack or dessert, made quickly and easily in an air fryer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or your favorite variety)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- Cooking spray
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (optional)
- 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt (optional for a lighter option)
Instructions
- Peel the apples if desired and slice them into wedges about 1/2 inch thick, removing the core and seeds. Mix the cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl and set aside.
- Set up a breading station with flour in one bowl, beaten eggs in another, and panko breadcrumbs in a third. Add half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture to the breadcrumbs and mix.
- Dredge each apple slice in flour, dip in beaten egg, and press into the breadcrumb mixture to coat evenly. Repeat for all slices.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 minutes. Arrange the breaded slices in a single layer in the basket, lightly spraying with cooking spray. Air fry for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crispy.
- Sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over hot apple fries and serve immediately with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for dipping.
Notes
Store leftover apple fries in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to regain crispiness.
