- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare baking sheets.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter and sugar mixture and beat until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Decorate with icing or sprinkles if desired, or enjoy plain.
Notes
Chill the dough if it’s too soft to roll. Store cookies in an airtight container.
