  • Author: Jena Ellison
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

Ridiculously easy slow cooker or oven-baked teriyaki chicken made with a sweet and savory sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights — just dump, go, and enjoy a flavorful, tender homemade dinner.

Ingredients

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts

Soy sauce

Honey or brown sugar

Rice vinegar

Garlic, minced

Ginger, grated

Cornstarch or arrowroot powder

Sesame oil

Water or chicken broth

Sesame seeds

Green onions, chopped

Instructions

1. Pat chicken dry.

2. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger until smooth.

3. Place chicken in a slow cooker or oven-safe dish and pour sauce over it.

4. Cook on low for 4–6 hours (slow cooker) or at 375°F for 30–40 minutes (oven), uncovering near the end for browning.

5. Remove chicken and stir in cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch + 2 tbsp cold water) to thicken sauce.

6. Return chicken to coat in the thickened sauce.

7. Drizzle sesame oil and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, add pineapple chunks or red pepper flakes.

Add veggies like broccoli or bell peppers during the last stage of cooking.

Use mirin instead of water for a richer sauce.
