- 1/4 cup of water or apple juice

Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a large skillet, combine all the ingredients: sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), cornstarch, and water or apple juice. Mix well.
- Cook the Mixture: Place the skillet on medium heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking, cooking until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbly, about 10 to 15 minutes.
- Add Butter: Once tender, remove from heat and stir in the tablespoon of butter until melted into the mixture.
- Cool and Use: Allow the filling to cool slightly before using it in a pie crust or serving warm as a dessert.
