Description

A versatile and flavorful apple pie filling that is perfect for pies, desserts, and breakfast toppings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups of peeled, sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Fuji)
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch (as a thickener)
  • 1/4 cup of water or apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon of butter (for added richness)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large skillet, combine all the ingredients: sliced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), cornstarch, and water or apple juice. Mix well.
  2. Cook the Mixture: Place the skillet on medium heat. Stir frequently to prevent sticking, cooking until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbly, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Add Butter: Once tender, remove from heat and stir in the tablespoon of butter until melted into the mixture.
  4. Cool and Use: Allow the filling to cool slightly before using it in a pie crust or serving warm as a dessert.

Notes

This filling can also be served over pancakes, waffles, or ice cream for a delightful treat.
