Description

A fun and rewarding recipe for making delightful homemade pop tarts filled with your favorite fruit jam or pastry filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup fruit jam or pastry filling
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (for icing)
  • Milk (for icing, optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
  2. Add Butter: Incorporate the chilled and cubed unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Form the Dough: Gradually add cold water to form a dough, avoiding overmixing.
  4. Roll and Cut: Roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thick and cut into rectangles.
  5. Add the Filling: Place fruit jam on half of the rectangles and cover with the remaining rectangles. Seal the edges.
  6. Egg Wash: Brush the tops with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  7. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool and Ice: Cool the pop tarts and drizzle icing made from powdered sugar and milk over them.

Notes

Keep your ingredients cold for flakier pastries and feel free to customize the fillings and icings.
