Description

Deliciously flaky and buttery croissants, perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (or 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk with yeast and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour mixture and knead until smooth.
  4. Chill the dough for 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough and fold it several times to create layers.
  6. Cut the dough into triangles and roll them up tightly to form croissants.
  7. Let them rise for 1-2 hours.
  8. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and brush the croissants with egg wash.
  9. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

For best results, ensure butter is very cold and do not skip the chilling step. You can also add fillings like chocolate or ham for variation.
