Homemade Mac and Cheese

Description

A creamy and cheesy dish that brings comfort and nostalgia, perfect for family dinners or a quick weeknight meal.


Ingredients

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add elbow macaroni and cook until al dente (7-8 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. Melt 4 tbsp of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then whisk in 2 tbsp of all-purpose flour to form a roux and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Gradually whisk in 2 cups of whole milk, stirring until the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
  5. Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce until well coated.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and sprinkle 1 cup of panko on top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

For variations, consider adding spices or different cheeses. You can also add vegetables or meats for a heartier dish.
