Description

These nostalgic caramel rolls are soft, fluffy, and filled with a sweet cinnamon mixture, all drenched in luscious caramel sauce. Perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for caramel)
  • 1/4 cup butter (for caramel)
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter together until warm (between 110°F and 115°F).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  3. Pour in the warm milk mixture and add the egg; mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a warm area and let it rise until it has doubled in size, which usually takes about 1 hour.
  6. Roll the dough out on a floured surface and sprinkle it generously with cinnamon and sugar.
  7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice it into individual rolls.
  8. For the caramel, melt together the butter and brown sugar in a small pan; then pour it into your baking dish.
  9. Arrange the rolls in the caramel, cover them, and allow them to rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Let them cool slightly, then invert onto a plate and serve warm.

Notes

For a simpler recipe, swap out granulated sugar for coconut sugar and leave out the nuts. For a dessert twist, add chocolate chips or dried fruit.
