Description

A comforting Salisbury steak recipe featuring seasoned beef patties cooked in a rich gravy, perfect for a hearty dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • pounds ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
  • ½ cup Italian breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 beef bouillon cube, crushed
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups hot water
  • 2 beef bouillon cubes
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 8 ounces cremini mushrooms, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, ketchup, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, crushed bouillon, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape into oval patties.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add sliced onion and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes. Add mushrooms and minced garlic, cooking for another 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add hot water, bouillon cubes, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, garlic powder, and cornstarch to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  6. Nestle patties back into the gravy, spooning some over them.
  7. Simmer on low heat for 3-5 minutes until flavors meld and patties reach 160°F (71°C).
  8. Serve hot with onion and mushroom gravy spooned over the top.

Notes

Salisbury steak is best enjoyed with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Garnish with parsley or green onions.
