Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- Additional granulated sugar, for rolling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough holds together nicely.
- Scoop out balls of dough, about 1-2 inches in size, and roll in additional granulated sugar.
- Place rolled dough balls about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are set but centers look soft.
- Cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
