Description

Delightful soft sugar cookies perfect for any occasion, easily customizable with decorations.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 whole egg (at room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 34 tablespoons whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
  2. Beat in the egg along with the extracts until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, mix the flour and baking powder together.
  4. Gradually combine the dry mixture with the wet ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Roll out the chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are slightly golden, then cool on a wire rack.
  10. For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk and extracts until smooth; decorate cookies once cooled.

Notes

Use room temperature egg for better mixing. Don’t skip chilling the dough to maintain cookie shape.
