Ingredients

- 1 cup salted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 whole egg (at room temperature)
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tablespoons whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar in a bowl until light and fluffy (2-3 minutes).
- Beat in the egg along with the extracts until well combined.
- In another bowl, mix the flour and baking powder together.
- Gradually combine the dry mixture with the wet ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough to 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are slightly golden, then cool on a wire rack.
- For icing, mix powdered sugar with milk and extracts until smooth; decorate cookies once cooled.
Notes
Use room temperature egg for better mixing. Don’t skip chilling the dough to maintain cookie shape.
