Description

Fluffy fried pastries perfect for breakfast or dessert, served with honey or powdered sugar.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Oil for frying
  • Honey or powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the shortening and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the warm water and knead to form a smooth dough.
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut it into squares or triangles.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan.
  6. Fry the cut dough pieces in the hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
  7. Drain the fried sopaipillas on paper towels.
  8. Serve warm, drizzled with honey or sprinkled with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

Ensure that the oil is hot before frying and avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking. Add a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor if desired.
