Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the shortening and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Gradually add the warm water and knead to form a smooth dough.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut it into squares or triangles.
- Heat oil in a deep pan.
- Fry the cut dough pieces in the hot oil until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Drain the fried sopaipillas on paper towels.
- Serve warm, drizzled with honey or sprinkled with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Ensure that the oil is hot before frying and avoid overcrowding the pan for even cooking. Add a pinch of cinnamon for extra flavor if desired.
