Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 small onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1 celery stalk, finely diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup chicken or seafood stock
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- Lemon wedges
- Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread
Instructions
- In a bowl, toss the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the onion, bell pepper, and celery. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
- Add the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, dried thyme, and dried oregano to the skillet. Stir to combine and let cook for a couple of minutes.
- Pour in the chicken or seafood stock and bring to a simmer. Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink and opaque, about 3-5 minutes. Season with hot sauce, salt, and black pepper to taste.
- Remove from heat and stir in fresh parsley. Serve immediately with lemon wedges over cooked white rice, grits, or with crusty bread.
Notes
Let the shrimp marinate in the spices for 30 minutes for added flavor. Adjust heat levels by modifying cayenne pepper or hot sauce.
