Description

Delightful homemade sugar cookies that are soft, sweet, and easily customizable for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • Sprinkles or frosting for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat until smooth.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until the dough starts to come together.
  6. Shape the dough into small balls and place on ungreased baking pans, flattening each slightly.
  7. Bake cookies for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden brown.
  8. Remove cookies from the oven and let them cool on wire racks. Decorate with sprinkles or frosting as desired.

Notes

For softer cookies, try adding a little extra butter or shortening.
