- 1 loaf brioche (or challah, or French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
- Spread the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and press down lightly.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the mixture.
- Let the casserole sit for about 10 minutes to soak up the custard.
- Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries.
Notes
For best results, use stale bread and consider adding mix-ins like chocolate chips or berries.
