Description

A warm and comforting French toast casserole that combines the classic flavors of French toast in an easy, make-ahead dish perfect for brunch or family breakfasts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf brioche (or challah, or French bread, cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or nonstick spray.
  3. Spread the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and press down lightly.
  6. Drizzle the melted butter over the top of the mixture.
  7. Let the casserole sit for about 10 minutes to soak up the custard.
  8. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh berries.

Notes

For best results, use stale bread and consider adding mix-ins like chocolate chips or berries.
