Description

Crispy beef tacos are a delicious comfort food perfect for busy evenings, featuring seasoned ground beef and crispy tortillas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 corn or small flour tortillas
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil (for frying tortillas)
  • For serving: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa, fresh cilantro (chopped)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the beef and cook until softened, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning mix and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a simmer, reducing heat to low, and let cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until mostly evaporated.
  4. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or microwave for 15-20 seconds to make them pliable. Heat 1/2 cup vegetable oil in a clean skillet over medium heat.
  5. Fry each tortilla for 15-20 seconds on each side until slightly golden. Fold tortilla and continue to fry until golden and crispy, about 30-60 seconds. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. Fill each crispy shell with seasoned beef and top with lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, sour cream, salsa, and cilantro.
  7. Serve the tacos immediately while hot and crunchy, with a taco bar for customization.

Notes

For added spice, include chopped jalapeños. Leftover components can be stored separately in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
