Description
A delightful twist on classic breakfast and lunch favorites, this sandwich combines crispy fried chicken with sweet, fluffy French toast.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large chicken breasts (Boneless and skinless)
- 1 cup buttermilk (Can be substituted with milk)
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 slices thick-cut bread (Challah or brioche recommended)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Maple syrup (For serving, to taste)
- Powdered sugar (For garnish)
- Fresh fruit (Such as strawberries or blueberries)
- Whipped cream (For serving)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Add the chicken breasts and marinate for at least 1 hour, or overnight if possible.
- Prepare the French Toast: In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated.
- Prepare and Cook the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade and dredge in flour, then in breadcrumbs. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and cook the chicken for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Assemble the Sandwich: In a separate skillet, melt butter over medium heat and cook the French toast slices until golden on both sides. Layer one slice of French toast, add a piece of fried chicken, and then top with another slice of French toast.
- Serve: Drizzle maple syrup over the sandwich and garnish with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and a dollop of whipped cream if desired.
Notes
Ensure the chicken is cooked through by using a meat thermometer; it should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C). Use thick-cut bread to hold up better against the filling and syrup.
