A delicious and creamy butter chicken dish that’s easy to make at home, perfect for family dinners or special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds skinless boneless chicken thighs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon sweet paprika
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons butter (divided)
  • 6 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • ¼ cup freshly chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
  • Naan bread
  • Steamed rice

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the salt, garlic powder, sweet paprika, curry powder, and Greek yogurt. Coat the chicken thighs well with the marinade and let sit while you prepare the sauce.
  2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion is soft and translucent.
  3. Stir in the tomato sauce, sugar, salt, black pepper, and heavy cream. If desired, add cayenne pepper. Mix in the garam masala and extra curry powder. Let simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the marinated chicken to the sauce and cook on medium-low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked.
  5. Add the remaining butter to the skillet, stirring until well combined. Serve hot with naan bread or over steamed rice.

Notes

Customize the spiciness by adjusting the cayenne pepper. For a vegetarian version, use paneer or chickpeas.
