Description

A classic dessert that captures the essence of summer with sweet peaches and a flaky crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups sliced peaches (fresh or canned, drained)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare the peaches by mixing them with 1 cup of granulated sugar and lemon juice.
  3. Make the batter by combining flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla, then stir until just combined.
  4. Add about ½ cup of melted butter to the bottom of a baking dish.
  5. Pour the batter over the butter in the dish without stirring.
  6. Add the peach mixture on top of the batter without mixing.
  7. Bake for 45-55 minutes, until the top is golden brown.
  8. Cool for a few minutes before serving warm.

Notes

For best flavor, use ripe, fresh peaches. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
